Methods of active learning: new opportunities for distance vocational education

Abstract

There was analyzed the state of distance learning use by VET teachers under professional training process for skilled workers. Almost half of the interviewed teachers use or try to use distance learning occasionally. According to the results of the SPOT-problem-reserve analysis of the use of distance learning technologies for skilled workers training in VET schools teachers‘ interest to active methods implementation by means of various cloud services and distance learning platforms is detected. It was carried out the theoretical analysis of domestic and foreign authors‘ scientific achievements and pedagogical experience and as a result the most appropriate ones were outlined. The article focuses on different classification approaches of active teaching methods in professional pedagogy theory those are being implemented at training institutions now; stresses the specific aspects of those methods – compulsory consideration of distance learning specific features, complex use of both pedagogical and organizational means. Examples of different active methods use in VET by means of distance learning are given: problem lecture, heuristic conversation, search laboratory work, solution of situational tasks, collective and group training, situational simulation, project method, business game and more. The author pays special attention to the necessity of teachers training on using active teaching methods in distance vocational education, as a teacher‘s professionalism is a basis for competent development of active teaching methods and expected outcomes provision.
