ELECTRONIC TEXTBOOK PHENOMENON

Abstract

Requirements of technological advance stipulate training process technologization on basis of Information-and-Communications and pedagogical Technology making an essential condition for mass qualitative education. Material-constructive type of a textbook being a socio-cultural phenomenon is determined by development of activity means and activity technology in a society that is by development of culture in a certain society. It is also determined by social demand for a specific activity technology. Present day Information-and-Communications Technology predetermine transforming the conventional training process into students’ learning activity as to gaining, first of all, the knowledge and skills on the subject studied, and also gaining the universal knowledge (search, selection, analysis, organization and presenting the information, use of information obtained for solving specific life tasks etc.) that is a constituent of information culture

of a person in information society. Electronic textbook is considered as educational information resource whose creation, distribution, and use is possible only with help of modern information technology and computers. The starting point for electronic textbooks creation is didactic goals and objectives to be solved by Information-and-Communications Technology. Arranging the text and multimedia material gains a didactic importance. Quality of new information perception, possibility for generalization and analysis, memorizing speed, completeness of learning the information largely depend on both arrangement of information on a page (computer’s screen) and succession of arranging the pages. Taking into account peculiarities of an electronic textbook compared to a paper one we can single out two multimedia functions: illustrative and cognitive. One more phenomenological feature of an electronic textbook is its ability to modify communication process between a student and a teacher due to a student’s capability to independently gain knowledge concerning extra connotation definitions, which are in the scope of comprehension for only a small part of audience, and independent choice of training pace.
