Development of vocational (professional and technical) schools students’ psychological preparedness to professional career

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of formation of psychological readiness of students of vocational schools to the selection and implementation of a professional career. The essence of the concepts of «psychological preparedness» and «psychological preparedness of students of vocational education institutions to the selection and implementation of a professional career» is defined. Functional and personal approaches to the definition of the content and structure of psychological preparedness are indicated. In accordance with the functional approach, psychological readiness is seen as a certain state of psychic functions. This state brings scientists closer to a phenomenon called «operational calm», «pre-star state», «mobilization readiness», «optimal working status and state of rest» etc. The personal approach suggests the consideration of psychological preparedness as a result of readiness for a particular activity. The article reveals the structure of the psychological preparedness of future qualified workers for the professional career choice and their implementation, defines the criteria and levels of its maturity. Following structural components of the psychological preparedness of the students of vocational schools for the professional careers choice and their implementation are marked out: assessment-orientation, emotional-volitional and motivational-value. The peculiarities of the components of psychological preparedness for the choice and implementation of the professional career of the students of vocational schools during the study were revealed according to the results of the pedagogical experiment.
