History and evolution

Establishment and Formation of Academic Traditions (2011–2019)

The academic journal Professional Pedagogics was founded on 7 April 2011 by the Institute of Vocational Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. During the first decade of its existence, the journal was published under the title Scientific Bulletin of the Institute of Vocational and Technical Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. Professional Pedagogics, during which time it laid the foundations of a distinctive scholarly school and established enduring academic traditions in the field of vocational and pedagogical education.

Transformation and State Recognition (2020–Present)

The year 2020 marked a period of qualitative growth and systemic modernisation of the journal.

Rebranding and New Status

In accordance with Order No. 409 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 17 March 2020, the journal’s title was streamlined and standardised to the concise and recognisable name Professional Pedagogics. The journal was officially included in the List of Professional Scientific Journals of Ukraine, Category B, confirming its compliance with national requirements for scholarly publications.

Digitalisation

The journal fully transitioned to an electronic publishing model and adopted the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. This shift enabled the automation of the double-blind peer review process, enhanced transparency of editorial procedures, and ensured alignment with international standards of academic publishing.

International Visibility

The journal has been successfully integrated into the global scholarly community, notably through indexing in ERIH PLUS, CrossRef. Evidence of its international recognition includes the availability of the journal’s publications in the archives and library collections of leading European universities, particularly in Bremen and Paderborn (Germany), Riga (Latvia), and Liverpool (United Kingdom).

Editorial Leadership and Academic Continuity

From its establishment until 2025, the consistency of the journal’s scientific strategy and adherence to high standards of academic integrity were ensured under the leadership of the Editor-in-Chief, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, and Academician of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, Valentina Radkevych.

Since 2025, the journal has been headed by Petro Luzan, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, and Chief Research Fellow of the Department of Professional Pre-Tertiary Education at the Institute of Vocational Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine.

The Journal’s Contemporary Mission

Today, Professional Pedagogics continues to fulfil its mission as an innovative academic platform for disseminating the results of fundamental and applied research in response to the challenges of Industry 5.0, ongoing digital transformation, and the post-war reconstruction of the education sector.
