Self‑archiving policy

1. General Principle

The journal “Professional Pedagogics” fully supports open science principles and operates under the Diamond Open Access model, which ensures:

  • no fees for authors or readers;
  • immediate and unrestricted open access to all published content;
  • a highly permissive self‑archiving policy, fully compatible with Green Open Access standards.

Authors have the right to deposit any version of their article in open repositories without embargo, without delays, and without prior permission from the Editorial Office.

This policy is fully compliant with international standards, including:
Sherpa/RoMEO Green OA, Plan S Rights Retention Strategy, and OpenAIRE Open Access Rules.

2. Versions Allowed for Self‑Archiving

The journal allows authors to deposit all three major versions of their manuscripts, representing the highest level of openness.

2.1. Preprint

A version of the manuscript prior to peer review.
May be archived at any time — before, during, or after submission to the journal.

2.2. Postprint (Author Accepted Manuscript, AAM)

The author’s accepted version after peer review and editorial acceptance,
but without publisher formatting (typesetting, layout, journal design).

2.3. Publisher’s Version / Version of Record (VoR)

The final, officially published PDF, including:

  • journal typesetting,
  • bibliographic metadata,
  • final layout and design.

All versions may be deposited immediately upon publication, with no embargo period,
fully aligning with the highest standards of Green OA + Diamond OA.

3. Permitted Deposit Locations

Authors may archive any version of their manuscript in the following types of repositories:

3.1. Institutional Repositories

University, academic, or national research repositories.

3.2. Disciplinary Repositories

Repositories in the fields of pedagogy, education, and social sciences.

3.3. International Open Repositories

Such as:

  • Zenodo
  • OSF (Open Science Framework)
  • Figshare
  • EdArXiv, SocArXiv, arXiv (when thematically appropriate)

3.4. Personal and Academic Platforms

  • the author’s personal website
  • ResearchGate
  • Academia.edu
  • Google Scholar profile
  • ORCID (via integrated repositories)

There are no technical, legal, or temporal restrictions on duplication or redistribution.

4. Required Bibliographic Information for Self‑Archiving

When depositing any version, authors must include:

  • full name(s) of the author(s)
  • year
  • article title
  • journal title: Professional Pedagogics
  • Issue number
  • article DOI

Recommended citation note:

“The final published version is available at: [DOI]”

This ensures proper identification and compliance with OpenAIRE metadata standards.

5. Compliance with International Open Access Standards

The journal’s self‑archiving policy is aligned with the following global frameworks:

5.1. Sherpa/RoMEO (Green Open Access)

The journal permits archiving of:

  • preprint,
  • postprint (AAM),
  • final published PDF (VoR)

without embargo — the highest level of Green OA.

5.2. DOAJ Best Practice

Compliant with:

  • transparency of access conditions,
  • clearly stated archiving rights,
  • absence of publisher‑imposed restrictions.

5.3. Plan S / cOAlition S

Meets requirements for:

  • Rights Retention Strategy,
  • immediate open access,
  • use of the CC BY 4.0 license,
  • reusability and redistribution rights.

5.4. OpenAIRE Guidelines

Ensures:

  • full openness of metadata,
  • archiving of the Version of Record,
  • no embargo periods.

5.5. BOAI and Berlin Declaration

Supports free access, copying, distribution, and lawful reuse of scholarly materials.

Allowing authors to deposit the Version of Record demonstrates the highest possible level of openness, characteristic of Diamond Open Access.

6. Restrictions

All versions of the article may be self‑archived, with the following limitation:

The following publisher‑specific elements may not be reused in other publications without written permission:

  • journal typesetting,
  • layout and design,
  • logos and branding,
  • proprietary graphical elements.

This restriction applies only to design, not to the full text or scientific content.

The official published PDF may nevertheless be freely shared in accordance with the CC BY 4.0 license.
