Occupation content as professionalism determinant

Abstract

Professionalism as a feature of an individual is characterized by the set of a professional’s particular peculiarities that secure appropriate qualitative and quantitative level of professional activity. We consider an individual’s professionalism to be purposeful effective socialization in terms of uncontrolled market economy. Professionalism as a process has such stages as formation, becoming and development. Pre-professionalism phase includes a period of training, professional adaptation at a specific manufacturing site and work place. The key factor in determining a period of learning is a content of profession. The content of profession shapes under influence of many factors such as development of engineering, technology, materials and so on. In terms of regulations occupation content is listed in references of qualification characteristics of workers’ occupations for different branches of economy. As a dynamic phenomenon the occupation content stipulates changes in training period. Under present conditions of constant changes in occupations content, appearance of new and consolidation of «conventional» occupations, increased employers’ requirements to workers job duties duration of pre-professionalism phase increases significantly hence prearranging contradiction between desired and actual period for gaining professionalism. The solution to this problem is to determine and take into account certain organizational and pedagogical conditions for organization of vocational education and manufacturing personnel training.
